oooooo today we are going to talk about HEMP.

hemp1Because I got a really great deal on 3 lbs of organic shelled hemp seed today. I use hempseed for everything. My husband is soy intolerant and also likes to eat healthy too; so hempseed comes in real handy in making up “mock meats” with other veggie ingredients and excluding soy/wheat gluten.

Hemp seed makes the best vegan “burgers” ever, raw and cooked.  Hemp seed makes the perfect “raw” food because it is not designed for high temp cooking at all. Even cooked hemp burgers are seared quickly. The other thing I like is hemp seed oil. WOW. What an incredible oil bread dip this makes, and it is soooooo good for you that it is totally worth saving up your calories for the day so that you can eat this oil dip with some fresh, crusty, sprouted, whole grain bread.

At the end of this blog post, I’m going to give you the recipe for my hemp seed oil dip. hehe.

I use hemp seed for my kefir nutritional shakes instead of canned protein powders. Raw cocoa, kefir, a little ice, a frozen banana, raw honey, and hemp seed in the blender. Holey Moley… talk about a way to start the day. Kefir kills my appetite like nothing else, so I find myself drinking a lot of these shakes. I have days that I eat nothing except a couple of these shakes.  Yes they are THAT good.

Hemp Seed Oil Bread Dip

1/2 cup cold pressed hemp seed oil (only purchase hemp seed oil that is refrigerated, it is a perishable oil!)

1 small garlic clove, shaved

1/4 tsp milled black pepper corns

1/4 tsp sea salt

1/4 tsp dry hot red pepper or Tabasco sauce (optional, but yummy for heat lovers)

1 tsp fresh oregano or marjoram, chopped (I like marjoram better)

1 tbsp fresh basil, chopped

mix and refrigerate overnight. serve with fresh from the oven, crusty, sprouted, whole grain bread.
