Let's Talk Pomegranate

Pomegranates stand out as one of my favorite fruits of all time. Ah.. the memories of many moons ago, September, the first classes of the year at college, and the supermarket shelves bursting with these beautiful, plump red fruits bearing juicy rubies inside. Even today I look forward to these first fruits of fall. There is nothing quite as satisfying as a low-cal whole grain sandwich with a split pomegranate on the side.

Nowadays pomegranates are grown in California and you don’t have to wait until the fall to enjoy this amazing fruit and its delicious, tart juice! Pomegranate juice makes a great low-cal beverage for lunch or an elegant beverage for dinner.

Pom Wonderful!

There are so many ways to enjoy pomegranates and their juice, I could write an entire novel. But I’ll just stick to mentioning my favorite here, since I love to incorporate the nutritional benefits of pomegranates into my diet regime.  And Pom Wonderful is probably the most convenient way to do this.

8 ounces of pomegranate juice have 150 calories. The thing about pomegranate juice is that it’s got a very highly concentrated flavor, a little can go a long way. Try this amazing low-cal fizzy drink recipe instead of diet sodas with fake sugar or full sugar soda:

Pom Wonderful POP! (37 calories for 10 ounces)

2 ounces of Pom Wonderful pomegranate juice

8 ounces of fizzy mineral water or club soda

a slice of lemon (optional)

ENJOY!!!!!
